FAQ

  • When I purchase a guitar from Machina, how long will it take to arrive?
On average, 3 months with no wait queue, but can take longer in some cases. If you've gone with a wood that I don't have stocked, it will take an extra month as the wood needs to acclimatize to my shop so that it doesn't move around and do weird things while I'm working with it. A French polish finish will also add 2 additional months to the delivery time as proper curing must be ensured. So, this means that if there is no wait queue and you order a guitar made of maple on maple (my favorite), and with a hard wax oil finish (also my favorite), you'll have your guitar in 3 months or less. If you go all out with the wood choices and a French polish finish, you will have your guitar in 6 months or less. Please be advised that guitars are built in the order they are received. I will do my best to scale my production capacity (shop size and personnel) accordingly with sustained demand to ensure that nobody ever has to wait longer than 6 months for a guitar.
  • Why don't you offer lacquer or poly finishes?
The answer is simple - I have no space to spray. My shop is currently 12'x16', so all the finishing is done in my house, which isn't ideal for spraying high VOC, incredibly flammable and harmful chemicals. When I scale up into a proper facility, spray finishes such as NC lacquer and poly will be one of the first new additions to the available options. I also have a master with decades of experience in spray finishes, who is going to come in and do those for me so that I can focus on building. Part of the goal moving forward is to formulate a spray finish that will give more depth-of-shine than NC lacquer or poly, but with low/no VOC. I would like to keep everything as natural as possible to reduce our environmental footprint.
